The City of Victoria Parks & Recreation is accepting registrants for its adult basketball and flag football leagues, which will operate with social distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The registration deadline for all leagues is Jan. 8. Afterward, teams may register until Jan. 13 with an additional $25 late fee. To register, go to www.victoriatx.gov/registration.
Men’s and women’s 5x5 basketball leagues will be hosted Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 20 at the multi-use pavilion basketball court next to the Youth Sports Complex. The registration fee is $300 for a roster of up to 12 people. For more information, contact recreation coordinator Brittany Dworaczyk at 361-485-3200 or bdworaczyk@victoriatx.gov.
A co-ed 5x5 flag football league will be hosted Thursday evenings beginning Jan. 21 at the Adult Softball Complex fields. The registration fee is $275 for a roster of up to 12 people. For more information, contact recreation coordinator Alex Moore at 361-485-3200 or amoore@victoriatx.gov.
In keeping with state regulations, participants will be required to observe social distancing guidelines, including the wearing of facial coverings, when not playing. Both venues are equipped with hand sanitizer stations.
Game dates and times for all leagues will be determined based on the number of registered teams. Teams will receive schedules prior to the start of the season.
Each team will be guaranteed eight games. The top four teams in each league will participate in playoff tournaments, and the first- and second-place teams will receive championship T-shirts.
Individuals who want to participate but do not have a team to join may contact the recreation coordinators and request to join the “free agent” lists and have their contact information sent to team managers. Free agents are not guaranteed access to a team.
Parks & Recreation will continue to host recreational sports programs in line with state orders and best practices outlined by health officials. To receive updates about sports programs for youth and adults, follow Victoria Parks and Recreation on Facebook.
