PHOTO: Historic photos and other items loaned by residents will be on display at Riverside Stadium’s 75th anniversary celebration May 20-21.

Residents are invited to celebrate Riverside Stadium’s 75th anniversary May 20-21 with skills contests, live music and other fun events.

The celebration will begin at 7 p.m. Friday with a homerun derby. The event will have teen and adult divisions for men and women. Participants must bring their own pitchers and hit as many home runs as they can out of 15 pitches. The registration fee is $10, and prizes will be given for first, second and third place in each division. To register, visit www.victoriatx.gov/registration.

Home run derby. May 20, 7 p.m., Riverside Stadium. Register at victoriatx.gov/registration.On Saturday, there will be youth showcases at the stadium, with baseball at 1 p.m. and softball at 3 p.m.

There will be bounce houses at nearby Lowe Field as well as skills contests. The contests are open to walk-up participation by all residents regardless of age or gender, and prizes will be given to the top performers.

  • 1 p.m. – “Dizzy Bat” first base contest
  • 2 p.m. – Bunting
  • 3 p.m. – Wiffle ball home run derby
  • 4 p.m. – Speed pitch challenge

Residents can enjoy live music at the stadium Saturday evening, with Fantazzia followed by Artie V. Y Grupo Suave. Food trucks will be available on-site during the performances.

Parks & Recreation will host stadium tours throughout the event, allowing residents to get an up-close look at the stadium as they learn about its history and view photos and memorabilia from the stadium’s past.
