As toilet paper continues to be scarce, residents are reminded to not flush any products other than toilet paper down their toilets.
Due to recent toilet paper shortages, residents may be using products such as paper towels, facial tissues, baby wipes and flushable wipes as a substitute. However, these products, including the flushable wipes, do not break down in the sewer system as toilet paper does. Flushing these products can lead to sewer backups, sewer pump failures and treatment issues.
In addition, people outside the city who are on septic systems will experience decreased efficiency and will have to clean and pump their systems more regularly if they flush these products.
