The City of Victoria and University of Houston-Victoria will host a March 4 public forum to give Victoria residents a chance to learn and ask questions about the long-anticipated Ben Wilson Street Corridor Improvements Project.
The Ben Wilson Street Corridor public forum will take place at 5:30 p.m. March 4 at the UHV University North Multi-Purpose Room, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. The public meeting will allow residents to provide feedback as the design phase begins. Those unable to attend will be able to watch the meeting live and submit questions on the City of Victoria’s Facebook page. The event is free and open to the public.
“We want to provide an opportunity for surrounding neighbors or any stakeholder who’s interested in the project to come learn about the project and ask any questions,” said City Manager Jesús A. Garza.
Victoria’s City Council at its Jan. 21 meeting hired engineering consulting firm Freese and Nichols to provide design services for the project. Victoria residents will be able to view educational materials and discuss the project with representatives of Freese and Nichols as well as UHV and the City of Victoria.
“UHV is a big part of this community,” said City Engineer/Public Works Director Ken Gill. “As it grows, so do the educational opportunities for residents, as well as research and sporting opportunities. This road is an integral part of that.”
At the Jan. 21 City Council meeting, a representative with Freese and Nichols provided an overview of the project, which will increase pedestrian safety in the area, improve design, address some drainage issues and establish the Ben Wilson corridor as the entryway to the UHV campus.
“When we awarded that design contract to Freese and Nichols, we committed to keeping the public as updated and as involved in the process as possible,” Garza said. “We look forward to hearing what our community has to say.”
