The City of Victoria is closely monitoring positive cases among employees and following guidance from the Victoria County Public Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Thirteen City of Victoria employees tested positive for COVID-19 since July 2, bringing the City to a total of 22 positive cases.

Thirteen cases are active, and nine have recovered. Of the active cases, four are from the Victoria Police Department, one is from the Victoria Fire Department, one is from Planning and seven are from Public Works.

All of the employees with active cases of COVID-19 are recovering at home.

The Victoria County Public Health Department is working to identify contacts who may have been exposed to the employees who tested positive. Anyone found to have had a high-risk exposure will be contacted as soon as possible.

The City of Victoria is working with the Victoria County Public Health Department to keep its policies updated, as it has throughout the pandemic, to continue providing services while limiting employees’ contact with members of the public and with one another. Members of the public are strongly encouraged to handle City business remotely through phone or email. Information about how to access services can be found on each department’s homepage at www.victoriatx.gov or by calling 361-485-3110.

Victoria County is currently experiencing a high rate of community transmission of COVID-19, and residents are strongly advised to abide by Governor Abbott’s orders and public health recommendations from the CDC to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. These include avoiding large groups, maintaining six feet of distance from others, practicing proper hygiene and wearing facial coverings in public.

For more information about COVID-19, visit www.victoriatxoem.org or call the local COVID-19 hotline at 361-580-5796.
