[ARCHIVED] Parks & Recreation closes areas of Riverside Park as river rises

The skies may have cleared after this weekend’s rainfall, but dangerous conditions remain on the Guadalupe River as rainwater upstream makes its way to Victoria.

Parks & Recreation has closed the Riverside Park Boat Ramp due to fast-moving water and high water levels on the Guadalupe River. Fox’s Bend and part of Grover’s Bend, including access to Pebble Beach, are also closed because of flood risk.

The rest of Riverside Park is open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Residents should also be mindful of standing water that may have accumulated after the rainfall, since it can serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The City advises residents to pour out standing water as soon as possible.

Parks & Recreation staff are monitoring river conditions and expect to reopen the closed areas Tuesday or Wednesday. Visit Victoria Parks and Recreation on Facebook for updates.
